Notre-Dame Tickets

You do not need a ticket to enter Notre-Dame. A free reservation can shorten the wait, and the towers, treasury and crypt are separate paid visits. Here is what each one costs.

Notre-Dame tickets in short

The general visit to the cathedral costs €0, at any age. A free online reservation exists, but it is optional, and you can also walk in without one. Without a reservation the queue can be longer. The reservation is meant to cut the wait, and no waiting time can be promised for any day.

Anything sold as a "cathedral entry ticket" is not an entry fee. A paid guided tour is a guiding service, never something you must buy to enter. The Paris Museum Pass operator warns against such offers as well.

You book the free time slot on the cathedral's own reservation page, resa.notredamedeparis.fr. This guide is independent, and that page is an external service. Slots are added regularly, and the page speaks of bookings a few hours or days before the visit, so do not plan around a fixed booking date.

The tower ticket

The climb has been open again since 20 September 2025.

Price and booking

The adult ticket costs €16. You need an e-ticket with a time slot, including children and holders of the Paris Museum Pass. It is not sold on site, and free places per slot are limited.

Who enters free

Visitors under 18, citizens of the EU aged 18 to 25 and non-EU residents of France in that age group, and people with a disability plus one companion enter free, with proof. The first Sunday of January, February, March, November and December is free too, still with a slot.

What to expect

The climb has 424 steps to a viewing level at 69 m and no lift. Under-18s climb only with an adult. The route has no toilet, water point or luggage store, and weather can close parts of it.

Separate visits with their own tickets.

The treasury

The treasury of the cathedral costs €12. People with a disability and one companion enter free with proof. Hours are in the opening hours.

The archaeological crypt

This city museum under the square charges €11, reduced €9, and is free under 18, as listed on the museum page. A cathedral reservation is not a crypt ticket.

Sainte-Chapelle

Since 12 January 2026 the ticket costs €16 for citizens or residents of an EEA country and €22 for everyone else. The combined ticket with the Conciergerie costs €23 or €30.

Do you need the Paris Museum Pass?

For Notre-Dame itself, no.

The pass costs €85 for 2 days (48 hours), €105 for 4 days (96 hours) and €125 for 6 days (144 hours) in 2026. The clock starts at your first visit and runs in consecutive hours, not calendar days. The cathedral is free anyway, so the pass does not open anything there. It covers the towers, but you still book the free slot, and the pass quota is limited. A sold-out pass quota does not mean you can pick any paid slot without paying. Whether the pass saves money depends on how many paid sites you visit. The Louvre is another option, and the Louvre ticket guide explains its tickets.

On the day

What happens at the door.

Security check

Everyone passes a security check, with or without a reservation. Suitcases and luggage are banned, and backpacks should be kept small.

Not allowed inside

Weapons, knives, scissors and other sharp objects, drugs, alcohol and aerosols are banned. Food, drink and smoking are not allowed in the nave.

Quiet and dress

Keep the noise down, set your phone to silent and cover your shoulders. Men take off hats. The cathedral stays a place of worship while you visit.

Notre-Dame tickets: frequently asked questions

Is a reservation required to enter Notre-Dame?

No. The reservation is free and optional. You can enter without one, but the queue can be longer, and the wait cannot be predicted.

When do reservation slots open?

The reservation page speaks of bookings a few hours or days before the visit and says slots are added regularly. There is no fixed opening date for the booking window.

Does a guided tour let me skip the queue?

Do not count on it. A paid tour is a guiding service. The cathedral entry is free for everyone, and no tour is required to go in.

Can I buy tower tickets at the door?

No. The tower e-ticket with a time slot is mandatory and is not sold on site. Book before you go, and keep in mind that free places per slot are limited.

Does the Paris Museum Pass cover Notre-Dame?

The cathedral is free, so you do not need the pass for it. The pass includes the towers, but you must still reserve a free time slot.

Is there an app?

A free visitor app for Android and iPhone exists. Use the web address of the reservation page to book a slot.
