Choosing an area near Notre-Dame

Hotels near Notre-Dame are spread over three arrondissements. This page does not name or rate individual hotels and does not list room prices. It helps you pick an area and shows what to check about the way to the cathedral. Compare rooms on a booking site of your choice, and read the cancellation terms before you pay.

A hotel address and a hotel on the island are different things. The cathedral stands on the Île de la Cité, which belongs to the 4th arrondissement. A hotel in the 4th arrondissement can be on the island or in the southern Marais, and a map will show you the real distance. Do not assume a short walk from the name of the district alone.

These are location labels, not recommendations of a specific house. Quiet rooms, views of the cathedral and safety cannot be judged from the district. Ask the hotel directly if one of these matters to you. For the left bank see the Latin Quarter guide, and for the island see the Île de la Cité guide.

Transport: what changed in 2026

A hotel close to a station helps only if the station works.

Métro line 4 at Saint-Michel

The station is closed from 14 September to 19 December 2026, and trains do not stop there. A hotel near Saint-Michel therefore does not have a usable line 4 stop close by in this period. Cité on line 4 and the RER B and C station Saint-Michel Notre-Dame are the other listed stations near the cathedral. Check their status on your travel day.

Fares

A single ticket for Métro, train and RER costs €2.55 in 2026, or €1.30 reduced. A bus or tram ticket costs €2.05, or €1.05 reduced. A ticket to or from the airports costs €14, or €7 reduced. Do not use the city fare for an airport trip.

Driving and parking

The Île de la Cité is outside the central Paris traffic-limited zone, and traffic to a destination in the zone stays possible. That does not mean every island street is open to cars. A car park at 19 Rue Lagrange, 75005 Paris, lists €4.80 for one hour, €14.40 for three hours and €43.20 for 9 to 24 hours as of 2026. It is not a cathedral car park.

Works around the cathedral

The Square de l'Île-de-France has been closed since 24 August 2026, and forecourt works are planned until the end of 2028, with further areas to 2030. Expect fences and detours near the cathedral. See the restoration page.

What your plans mean for the hotel

Match the area to the days you want to spend.

An early start at the cathedral

Weekday opening is at 07:50, on Saturday and Sunday at 08:15. Entry is free and reservation is optional. On Thursday the cathedral stays open until 22:00. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. See tickets and reservation.

Towers and Sainte-Chapelle

The towers cost €16 and need a timed slot. The Sainte-Chapelle costs €16 or €22 and also needs a slot. Plan your hotel around the slot you booked, not the other way round.

Museum days

The Louvre is closed on Tuesdays and open until 21:00 on Wednesdays and Fridays. For tickets and planning see the Louvre guide.

Arrival with luggage

Large luggage is not allowed in the cathedral, and the Sainte-Chapelle has no cloakroom. Drop your bags at the hotel before you sightsee, or ask if it can store them.

Before you book

Check the stations

Look at the status of line 4 and of the RER B and C for your dates.

Check cancellation terms

Read them before you pay, because your cathedral and Sainte-Chapelle slots may change your plans.
